I have been given the opportunity to act as a jury member for Daisy Beauty Awards, a yearly award that selects the best new products of the year. Last year I judged lip products, and this year it’s cleansers! I’ll say it’s a lot more difficult to make a decision this year, skincare takes more time and care than makeup products. At least I think so.

Luckily, I haven’t actually tried any of these cleansers before, so I don’t have any prior opinions about them. The winners are announced at the start of next year, so stay tuned and don’t forget to check out the other nominees!

The nominees for the best cleansers of 2018 are as follows…

Lancôme Miel-en-Mousse

L’Occitane Immortelle Divine Cleansing Balm

Pixi Double Cleanse by Caroline Hirons

Skinderella Midnight Spell Breaker Milk Cleanser

Garnier Micellar Water-in-Oil

From this lineup I see two main trends – oils, balms and creams make up four out of the five nominees. These types of cleansers have more or less the same idea of dissolving oil with oil, though many cleansers of this type also contain surfactants in order to rinse away more easily. It’s a particularly gentle way of cleansing that makes your skin feel conditioned and not stripped, like some conventional cleansers might.

The second main trend is the colour yellow! I’ve mentioned the yellow trend on the blog earlier, if only in passing, and indeed three of the five nominees in this category have a warm yellow hue, from the golden oil floating on top of the Garnier micellar water to the honey yellow of the Lancôme and L’Occitane cleansers. I’m actually very fond of the colour yellow myself, especially this time of year when it’s dark and gloomy outside.

Have you tried any of these?
