I saw some really beautiful looks featuring red liner at the Ashley Williams S/S18 show, and immediately got inspired to try something similar. I opted for this spiky look, also a little influenced by the horror/mystery anime Mononoke. It’s been a while since I did a makeup look – I’ve become a little set in my ways and do really quick and easy looks most days. Obviously, this is all just for fun! Amateur makeup for sci fi geeks. Speaking of which, Star Trek Discovery is on now!!! I’m so excited to have Klingons in my life again.
To get my own look, I started out with my usual mix of Apoliva foundation mixed with & Other Stories Radiance Cream, applied with a damp beauty blender. The red eyeliner, which is one of those products I always pick up, is a combination of Kryolan Contour Pencil in #908 and Make Up For Ever Aqua Liner in #10 Iridescent Red.
This red eyeliner pencil is a big favourite in my collection, I started buying them years ago before red eyeliners were easy to find – this was the only one I could find, at a costume shop. It’s harder than most eye pencils but very easy to use and very affordable.
I lined both my upper and lower lash lines and did my best to draw somewhat straight lines ending in little circles radiating out from my eye (I used a paper card to guide me), then covered my lid in the red pencil. Once it had set, I applied the liquid liner on top. Mascara wasn’t necessary for this look, as the liner was the focal point.
The Kryolan pencil was also brushed into my brows and traced along my waterline before I moved on to lips – I covered them in Too Faced Perfect Lips Lip Liner in Perfect Nude, then Viva La Diva Warm Sand on top. The Viva La Diva lipstick is a real gross concealer-beige colour, but once I blotted and blended it in it made a perfect skin-like nude.
